SUNDAY 20TH JULY ORANGE 10TH BIRTHDAY PARTY 11pm to 11am `Book the Monday off work now’ Ten years ago in the summer of 1998 a small Monday morning afterhours party first opened its doors at The Prince Of Orange Pub in Rotherhithe. Just known as Orange this was started by Craig Elder to meet the needs of clubbers who wanted somewhere to go after DTPM and Melt at Turnmills. DJing on that first night were Sean Sirrs, Jamie Jay and Fat Tony, who, of course would be involved with the club for many years to come. As the club became busier it soon became clear that a venue change was needed to somewhere that was easier to get to and with better club facilities, so Orange moved to The Viaduct in Vauxhall (the venue that would become Fire). With its stone dancefloor and `unique’ atmosphere The Viaduct certainly took Orange to another level with the numbers growing steadily, it’s also worth remembering that while the main room has always been the club’s Funky House trademark sound, with DJs like Damien D Lux and Stevie B joining Fat Tony but at this time the smaller second room was hard house from DJs like Don Grant. The next move for Orange was across Vauxhall to Club Coliseum where it remained for a couple of years, with the addition of DJs like Paul Heron, Paul Martin, The Sharp Boys and The Oli. While this was happening Craig was pushing his business with the addition of A:M on Saturday mornings and Beyond a joint venture with Crash on Sunday mornings followed by Later, which started life in the downstairs part of Beyond. In 2004 following a series of problems with The Coliseum Craig decided to buy The Viaduct and Fire was born, he immediately started a refit of the venue, beginning a job which is still continuing today... A:M was the first night to move back to Fire, then Later soon to be followed by Orange, where it remains to this day. Two years ago, the smaller room was changed from `The Latin Quarter’ to `Raw’ a showcase for DJs David Jimenez and Gonzalo to bring London `the sound of now’ a truly underground minimalist vibe. In recent years the DJ line up has increased to include names like Terry Bryan, D’Johnny, Dave Cross and Alan K. Orange has also recently started a residency In Paris , rocked Pacha in Ibiza and will be the major club featured at this year’s Alternative holidays week long event in Athens. Although now eclipsed in size by clubs at Fire like Juicy and Horizon, Orange remains at the core of the business and at the heart of Vauxhall clubbing with its world famous reputation for cutting edge music and a brilliant atmosphere. The influence that Orange and The Orange Group has had upon the London and UK gay club scene cannot easily be measured, but it safe to say that it has set the standard for clubbing in 21st century London, not only with its world class league of DJs but also with physical innovations like the Lightbox at Fire and the recent refit and makeover of Area. Sunday 20th July see’s The Orange Group celebrating 10 years of Monday morning madness with a massive party pulling out all the stops with the whole of Fire decked out with great production and fantastic music. As Craig says, `this will be the party of the Decade’. The main room will see Paul Martin, The Oli, The Sharp Boys and Stevie B rocking Fire along with the vocal talents of Tonnic, while in the Raw Mirror room, David Jimenez and Gonzalo will be joined by Paul Heron and the whole thing topped off by the legend that is Fat Tony making a welcome return to Fire, playing a classics set in the Fire Lounge. Also we will be giving away a limited edition promo CD to the first 500 customers; `Stevie B’s All time classic Orange Mix’... a collection of the biggest Orange tunes from the past Decade.
